Menehune are the
'little people' of Hawaii, similar to pixies or trolls. They
are known for building many of the heiau (Hawaiian
temples) and fishponds around the islands. They work
only at night, and only on projects that will take one night
to complete.
The little people work hard, but play hard, too. They spin tops, throw darts, box, race, slide down grassy hills on ti leaves, and play 'hide the pebble'. Their favorite game is to throw mountain rocks into the ocean, and dive in after them. Rolling down hills is fun, especially when the ocean is at the bottom and you can splash into the water.
We know what little people like, and each day at Camp Menehune, we do something different... learn things, explore, eat, and of course swim.
On a day when you
want to relax, let us take care of the Menehune... they won't
be bored, and we'll return them to you full of stories about
their adventures.
Camp Menehune prides itself on
providing a safe and fun environment for your children, ages
5 through 12, while
staying at the world-famous
Hilton Waikoloa Village. Upon
availability, we also welcome non-Hilton guests. Each
day includes crafts, games and water activities geared
toward the theme of the day.
The camp room features:
- A Discovery Center where children can touch and see creatures in
our touch pool.
- A Block/Game Center for those who love playing foozeball, ping
pong, pool, board games or building with Legos
and blocks.
- A Hawaiian Dramatic Play Area where children can dress up in aloha
attire.
- A Book Corner for our avid readers who'd like to read stories about
Hawaii or just get cozy and look at Hawaiian
picture books.
- An Art Area where young aspiring artists can get creative using
any of the art mediums that are set out on our
fully stocked art bar.
